Toe Shoes in the News

My beloved toe shoes are featured in Yahoo’s Healthy Living section this week. The article gives readers the gist of how toe shoes became popular (created in 2006, became popular last year because of a best selling book called ‘Born to Run’). Check out the full article.

WTF Happened to My Toe Shoes??

Soooo, I wake up yesterday morning, ready to don my toe shoes for my P90x KenpoX workout. I pick up the left shoe and begin to freak out: Dadli, my cat, attacked my toe shoes. WTF?

I picked up my scarred toe shoe, ran to the living room and proceeded to wave the shoe and yell at Dadli like a madwoman….doesn’t she know how much these things cost? Dadli was smart… she fled the scene immediately.

I knew something sinister was going through Dadli’s mind when during my abs workout two days before, I saw her looking at the toe shoes funny; her beady little eyes were following every movement of the shoes.

I checked on the shoes this morning and they don’t seem to have endured another attack. Did I get through to Dadli? Only time will tell.

My Toe Shoes Review

Yes, pic is upside down….that was intentional…thanks. The pic is of me doing calf stretches (imagine yourself in a sort of downward dog position with one leg straight and one leg bent) after my p90x plyometrics workout yesterday.

I actually used the toe shoes on Tuesday which worked out really well for weight training. But I really wanted to see how they would work during a cardio session. I’m not even going to bullsh!t you, the toe shoes feel funky on your feet at first. Not funky in a bad way, but just different. If you’ve ever had a pedicure, it is almost like having the toe separator between your toes, but not quite that drastic; its just an odd feeling I guess and I was definitely distracted during the first 10 minutes of working out. But that quickly passed….and I absolutely love them! They’re so incredibly light and they almost make you feel free;  like you’re not boxed in….like this is how we’re supposed to workout…like you’re 7 years old and running around buck-wild outside on grass…you get the idea yet?

With all the jumping I was doing, I was worried that my landings would have been really hard, but you instinctively land on the balls of your feet which softens the landing which is how we should land. I’m seriously in love with the shoes. Right now, I have the Sprint but when I get out of the unemployment line, I can totally see myself getting an inside-only pair like the Performa Jane.

I know they look weird (eh hem, Amanda and Soca Silky) but give them a chance.

Birthday Shoes is also a great site for all things toe shoes.

I Have…..Toe Shoes!!!

Your FitNut is in Hotlanta this weekend and was strolling the streets of Little Five Points with Mandi and Mr. Green. This is such a cute and funky area to walk around in. Anyways, we went into a sports store and I saw Vibram Five Fingers (or as I call them…toe shoes). I’ve been dying for a pair of toe shoes forEVER.

I tried them on and fell instantly in love….and got them! According to Vibram, the toe shoes are designed to “mirror the flex points and silhouette of the foot”. The shoes are supposed to give  wearers “an increased sense of balance, an expanded range of motion, and improved posture.”

I’ll def post updates as I use the shoes more. Uber-excited!
